Education for Caregivers SeriesContact Peter Wright, 888-8301

For Immediate Release
Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and caregivers. People with dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s and related diseases have a progressive brain disorder that makes it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate with others, or take care of themselves. Copley Hospital Outreach and The Arbors at Shelburne are pleased to offer a series of workshops for caregivers who provide care for someone living with memory impairment. “Often, caregiving relatives are left to struggle, feeling isolated and uninformed. Knowing how to communicate and care for someone with dementia can make caregiving less stressful and can help improve the quality of the relationship,” states Linda Shaw, RN, Manager Copley Community Outreach. The three-class series begins with a “Caregiver Stress” workshop. The presentation will focus on the many challenges of the realities of life and living with dementia. This class will be offered on April 6th at noon or April 17th at 5:00 p.m. Nutritional health is key to the well-being of those with memory impairment. This workshop, available on May 15th at 5:00 p.m. or May 18th at noon, teaches caregivers ways to ensure the loved one is eating a healthy diet. Mental stimulation and physical activity in the daily lives of the person with dementia and the caregiver is what the third workshop will focus on. Lots of ideas will be provided at this June 15th at noon or June 19th at 5:00 p.m. class. These one-hour classes will be held at Copley. Shaw noted that although the workshops are free of charge registration is requested by calling 802-888-8369.
