Copley Nurse Receives Oncology Nursing CertificationFor Immediate Release, contact Pete Wright 888-830101/16/2007
Copley’s Center for Outpatient Services, also known as ACU, is pleased to announce that registered nurse, Karen Willett, recently received her Oncology Nursing Certification. Although Willett has been working in the hospital’s oncology department for a number of years, she now joins nurses Sandy Grace and Barb Shane with this prominent credential. Everyday, new challenges are being created by the number of younger adults diagnosed with cancer, not to mention an aging population that is at greater risk for cancer. Certified oncology nursing is a testament to the specialized knowledge and experience to provide the care cancer patients require. “I think it’s important for our patients to know that a member of Copley’s Oncology team has achieved this distinction,” states Peter Wright, Senior Director Planning, Marketing and Medical Group Operations. Certification in oncology nursing makes a difference to the patients, to employers who staff their facilities with skilled and experienced cancer nurses, and to the individual who attains the credential. “We are proud of Karen’s accomplishment and her commitment to providing the highest level of patient care,” continued Wright. Attaining certification requires time and effort on the part of the nurse. The exam tests the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice competently. In addition to taking an exam, Willett was required to complete a number of continuing education hours and hours of oncology nursing practice. On behalf of the Copley family, please join us in congratulating nurse Willett.
