Copley Medical Staff Honors EmployeesFor Immediate Release05/21/2007
Honoring excellence has become a long standing tradition at Copley. As part of that tradition, one of the most desirable honors of staff is to be recognized by the medical staff. On May 9th doctors Joel Silverstein (Vice President of Medical Staff), Anne Vitaletti-Coughlin (Past President of Medical Staff) and Brian Smale (Chief of Surgery) presented awards on behalf of the entire Copley medical staff to three employees at the hospital’s annual employee recognition banquet. “There are so many deserving of recognition that naming the recipients of the Edward French Memorial and Goddard Family awards proved to be challenging,” stated Dr. Silverstein.
Each year the Edward French Memorial Award is presented in recognition of nursing excellence. This year Sandy Grace, RN, OCN, received this award because of her nine years of excellent service. Grace is the familiar face patients are greeted by and cared for when visiting the hospital’s Center for Outpatient Services (ACU). In his recognition speech Dr. Smale described Grace as a very caring, loving and compassionate nurse who always goes above and beyond for her patients and co-workers. “Sandy truly exemplifies what the award means,” said Smale. “Over the years, Grace has grown to be a strong clinical mentor and demonstrates her nursing leadership skills with other healthcare professionals.”
From nursing assistant, and LPN to Registered Nurse, Anne Turner also shared in the honor as recipient of the Edward French Award. “Anne, a nurse on the medical surgical unit, is known for her caring and nurturing ways. She is quiet and does what has to be done, ensuring her patients receive the highest quality of care,” stated Dr. Silverstein. Dr. Silverstein went on to note that both nurses are heavily relied upon by physicians for their critical thinking and assistance on every level. “Their clinical skill levels, courtesy and care show that each is exemplary in delivering the high quality health care that Copley is known for. On behalf of the entire medical staff, it is a pleasure and honor to work with these nurses, as well as the entire nursing team at Copley.”
The Goddard Family Award recognizes excellence in a non-nursing position. This year’s award was presented to Executive Assistant to the President and CEO, Nancy Sweeney. Dr. Vitaletti-Coughlin, express thanks on behalf of the entire medical staff to Sweeney, noting that over the past 18 months her work and support to the group has been nothing but excellent, stating “She has been a great asset to the organization over the last two years managing to effectively triage the concerns and questions of staff, trustees and community members. Her willingness to help the medical staff leadership and board of trustees during a transition phase has been invaluable. Her commitment to her post has enabled the rest of the organization to function at its highest level.” In addition, Sweeney was presented the Trustees’ Award by System trustee, Ken Gibbons. In his speech, Sweeney was described as a motivating force over the past 24 months. “She’s done a wonderful job through this transition period. On behalf of the entire board of trustees we thank you.”
In addition to their names displayed on plaques hung outside the Laboratory each received a monetary gift from the entire Copley medical staff.
Copley is proud of the commitment and quality of its staff – people helping people in the true spirit of a community hospital. They ask that you join them in saluting Sandy, Anne and Nancy upon their receipt of these prestigious awards.
