Volunteers Recognized by CopleyContact: Peter Wright, 888-830104/17/2007
For Immediate Release
The month of April is a sign that winter is over and the earth re-emerges. It is also a time to recognize the many volunteers who dedicate their time and talents. Copley joins the Nation in recognizing that dedication during Volunteer Week, April 15-21. “The value of our volunteers at the hospital, Second Chance and in our community is immeasurable, commented Peter Wright, FACHE, Senior Director Planning, Development and Medical Group Operations. “These dedicated men and women have been a key part of the more than 140 volunteers who contributed over 21,500 hours in 2006.” Wright noted that is an equivalent of more than 10 full time staff. “Not only does their support allow Copley to achieve our high level of care, but volunteers greatly enhance our ability to be an efficient and effective operation.” Copley’s Volunteer Coordinator, Jill Baker, explained that the hospital offers a variety of ways for volunteers to make a difference and works closely to match their preferences with just the right position. “Opportunities range from assisting visitors at the information desk, working in the gift shop or Second Chance, sorting and delivering patient mail, to a variety of clerical work and providing a caring presence to patients,” Baker added.
Other behind the scenes, but very important opportunities include knitting of baby accessories and lap and shoulder afghans for older patients and our chemo patients, mending of patient gowns and tending to the many gardens that surround the campus. “There is no doubt that volunteers are vital to the success of our hospital. Volunteers work as seriously as our employees. And for as much as the volunteers give, they say they get as much out of it,” continued Wright. “We are truly blessed by their acts of kindness.”
Volunteering doesn’t stop there. Wright added that fundraising efforts through volunteer activities, auxiliary membership, the hospital Gift Shop and Second Chance resulted in gifts to Copley Hospital Foundation of $30,000 through Copley Hospital Auxiliary in support of the 2006 campaign. If you, or someone you know is interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities at Copley, please call Jill Baker at 888-8302. Please join the Trustees, administration, medical staff and staff in saluting this wonderful group of community members - people who are your family, your friends and your neighbors. Should you run into one of them, why not stop and say, “Thank you!” To recognize their efforts Copley will be hosting an appreciation luncheon on Monday, May 7th.
